Who we are

Bluecoord is a community field observation platform. This policy explains what data we collect, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

What we collect

• Email address — required for account creation and password recovery only.
• Display name — publicly shown on your observations. You choose this.
• Observation data — category, species/name, notes, approximate GPS location, and timestamp of each observation you submit. This is public by design.
• Photos — optional images you attach to observations. These are stored securely and displayed publicly on the map.

What we do NOT collect

• Your precise real-time location (only captured when you explicitly log an observation)
• Device identifiers, browsing history, or behavioral tracking data
• Payment information of any kind

Passwords

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage. This is a one-way transformation — no one, including the site administrator, can read your password. If you forget it, the only option is a reset email.

Who can see your data

• Your display name and observations are publicly visible to anyone viewing the map.
• Your email address is visible only to the project administrator via the Supabase dashboard.
• Your password is visible to nobody.

Third-party services

• Supabase — database and authentication provider. Data is stored on Supabase servers. See supabase.com/privacy.
• Mapbox — map rendering. Map interactions are subject to Mapbox's privacy policy at mapbox.com/legal/privacy.
• Netlify — website hosting. See netlify.com/privacy.

We do not sell data to any third party. We do not use advertising networks.

Data retention & deletion

You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting the project administrator. Observation data you have contributed will be anonymized rather than deleted, as it forms part of the community dataset.

Your rights

• Access a copy of your data
• Correct inaccurate information
• Request account deletion
• Withdraw consent (by deleting your account)
